HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 32

Requesting the Division of Highways to name the new bridge in Alderson, West Virginia on Route 3, bridge number 32-3-0.01, as the “Ensign Melvin G. Livesay Memorial Bridge.”

    Whereas, Ensign Melvin G. Livesay was born on June 26, 1921, in West Virginia; and

    Whereas, Ensign Melvin G. Livesay was a dive bomber pilot in Air Group Fifteen, attached to the U.S.S. Essex in World War II; and

    Whereas, Ensign Melvin G. Livesay was shot down and killed, along with his gunner, on November 11, 1944; and

    Whereas, Ensign Melvin G. Livesay was awarded the Navy Cross, the highest award by the Navy, for his actions on October 25, 1944; and

    Whereas, Ensign Melvin G. Livesay was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in aerial flight as a pilot of a dive bomber, for actions against enemy Japanese forces from September 7, 1944 to October 21, 1944; and

    Whereas, Ensign Melvin G. Livesay was awarded the Purple Heart; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the West Virginia Legislature:

    That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways to name the new bridge in Alderson, West Virginia on Route 3, bridge number 32-3-0.01, as the “Ensign Melvin G. Livesay Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the “Ensign Melvin G. Livesay Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and to the family of Ensign Melvin G. Livesay.
